Director of New Business Development

Barbarian, a Cheil Worldwide company, is looking for a social-savvy, tech-minded Director of New Business Development to join our team. In partnership with the leadership team and key stakeholders throughout the agency, this person will lead all new business development opportunities, from identifying and sourcing strategic new pitch opportunities to owning the nuts and bolts of agency storytelling, pitch timelines and capabilities presentations. 

A proven new business winner, this person will be idea-led and executionally minded, able to advance Barbarian’s revenue goals through net new business, while also raising the agency’s profile across the industry with their input on marketing efforts. This is an opportunity for a doer to shape the client roster and create rigor around the pitch process while establishing the proper pipeline required for bolstering our current offerings. They will lead day-to-day, getting their hands dirty to improve process and deliver the best pitch possible. This person will have the opportunity to build out the department to meet their vision. 

This person will serve as a partner to the leadership team  to gameplan future new business targets while also identifying thought leadership opportunities and advising on brand marketing and PR strategies. 

Based in New York, this person will report directly into our Managing Director  and be the single point of execution dedicated to all new business endeavors.

The Role

  • Lead all aspects of new business development: prospecting pitch opportunities, targeting strategic future brand partners and leading and project managing the pitch process from start to finish
  • Proactively source new and profitable business opportunities, working closely with Executives to strategize on and harness our exclusive offerings and best in class services
  • Manage and execute the presentation development process including project managing timetables, ownership assignments, presentation materials, and all related communications and meetings
  • Great storyteller who can formulate strong narratives about our capabilities and historical achievements and translate them into pitch presentations and agency marketing needs 
  • Take the lead on all content and presentation development to guarantee a timely and organized pitch delivery
  • Serve as lead point of contact with PR partners, leading award submissions, identifying thought leadership and marketing opportunities
  • Input on the formulation of our 2023 business development plan, identifying objectives, strategy, tactics, and required resources
  • Assess and optimize all new business collateral, leading case study development, upgrading pitch templates and improving any external properties and communication vehicles
  • Working with agency leads to skillfully negotiate new business fees, project SOWs and lucrative partnerships deals 
  • Identify and go after the most feasible and illustrious awards in our industry to further credentialize our capabilities
  • Partner with the most senior people at the agency and prospective clients, building relationships that serve the future of the business

The Candidate

  • Charismatic, collaborative and great at relationship-building, able to troubleshoot timing constraints and communicate across teams with clarity and diplomacy 
  • Extremely savvy regarding new and emerging brands and platforms with unbounding enthusiasm for the future of the creative and tech industries
  • Outstanding communication and storytelling skills, able to present content in a compelling manner across levels to prospective clients, industry press, and agency partners
  • Seasoned in the creative/digital agency world and digital spaces with an expert understanding of industry R&Rs and department capabilities
  • Unflapped by tight timelines and fast-paced environments, able to juggle multiple projects and integrate fellow executives into the process along key milestones
  • The gravitas and proven ability to swiftly establish and nurture strong relationships with potential clients, from the c-suite level and beyond 
  • A galvanizing and energetic presence who knows when to collaborate on decisions and when to take the individual lead
  • Positive and resilient—entrepreneurial, tenacious, and brave  

Success Criteria

  • Present a plan for annual new business targets, approach and tactical strategies
  • Establish a repeatable yet scalable pitch and new business intake process 
  • Substantially increase new business revenue by measurable and indisputable indicators

Location: NYC, hybrid
Salary range: $190k-$220k
The starting salary will match the skills and experience in the role assessed during the interview process.
